RSO Spotlight: Spanish Activities Club

Spanish Activities Club

Faculty Advisor: Kathryn Garcia, Professor of Spanish, kgarcia@highlands.edu

The Spanish Activities Club celebrates and explores the richness of the Hispanic culture through language, art, music and more. Meeting primarily in Cartersville, but the club is open to all students.

For the 2020-2021 academic year we are in search of a president, vice president, treasurer and secretary!

Pre-COVID:
We met several times a semester both on campus and for dinner meetings at local restaurants.

The Spanish Activities Club regularly hosted Movie Nights and Game Nights. We attended cultural events such as concerts, theater and opera. We participated in Fall Frenzy and Spring Fling events. The club is also active at the Boys and Girls Club of Bartow County.

Post-COVID:
Tentatively we plan to meet via Zoom. In-person meetings will depend on COVID and guidelines. In April 2020 in light of COVID, the Club held a virtual gathering in which students shared favorite songs, paintings and poems via Zoom. This was a success and I hope to do it again in Fall 2020. We may also do a virtual Movie Night. Other activities will depend on guidelines.
