RSO Spotlight: Psychology Club

Psychology Club

Faculty Advisor: Elizabeth Dose, Associate Professor of Psychology, edose@highlands.edu

The Psychology Club provides a common meeting ground for the free exchange of ideas among students, faculty, and guest lecturers, and inspires students to explore psychological principles in the modern field of psychology and related vocations. This club is open to all major and non-major psychology students who have a general interest in psychology.

Our FB page

Derrick Whitaker (dwhitak1@student.highlands.edu) is returning as our president, but we are looking for other new officers for the 2020-2021 academic year, so if you are interested in serving as our club VP, or secretary, please send one of us an email.

Pre-COVID:
We met once a week in person in Thursdays at 12:30 in the Student Center Conference Room on the Cartersville campus to discuss current issues and plan upcoming events.

The Psych Club is posting Careers in Psychology Posters around campus, and co-hosting the Courageous Conversations Series with Student Support Services. We also conducted field trips to prisons and had guest speakers like a medical examiner, therapists and special education teachers. We hosted the Thanksgiving Day Brigade where we fed 2 GHC families Thanksgiving meals, as well as other community volunteer efforts like donations and volunteering at the Cartersville Homeless Shelter. Other events included the Roswell Historical Ghost Tour, Brain Games, Love Language Quizzes, Magic Shows, Counselors Corner (dropbox to answer interpersonal questions), Easter Basket Brigade (fill and donate 10-15 Easter baskets to GHC families in need) and GHC X Events: Students Speak (students give lectures on issues related to mental health).

Post-COVID:
We will still meet in person, when possible, but the time and location is yet to be determined. We will continue to do Courageous Conversations, GHC X and other speakers, as well as our volunteering in the community!
