As we head into the Labor Day weekend, GHC’s Cybersecurity Team wants to remind everyone to stay alert for phishing emails and online scams. Fraudsters often increase their activity during holidays, and students are a frequent target.

Watch out for:

• Emails with attachments but little or no message content
• Messages claiming to be from BankMobile or Nelnet
• “Account verification” or “account revalidation” messages
• Messages warning that your account will be suspended unless you take immediate action

Remember: GHC will never ask you to visit a Google Form, Microsoft Form, or other web form to verify, validate, or reactivate your account. Any message requesting passwords, MFA codes, banking information, or other sensitive information through a web form should be considered suspicious.

If you open a link and are taken to a form asking for personal, financial, or account information, close the page immediately and stop communicating with the sender. Simply opening the link is generally not a cause for alarm. However, if you submitted information, change your GHC password immediately by visiting myaccount.microsoft.com/PasswordReset

If you receive a suspicious email, do not respond, follow links, or open attachments. Instead, report it using the Phish Alert Button (PAB) in Outlook so it can be reviewed by the GHC Cybersecurity Team.
