Honoring Black History Month: Olaudah Equiano

Join Student Engagement as we honor Black History Month by highlighting former slaves who went on to impact America.

“But it is not the slave trade entirely at war the heart of man.” Olaudah Equiano

Olaudah Equiano is a well-known writer and abolitionist from the 18th century. He captured the attention of audiences when he became a free man and wrote an autobiography of all the horrors he experienced while he was enslaved. This autobiography paved the way for the Slave Trade Act of 1807, which led to the end of the slave trade.
