Honoring Black History Month: Abram Gannibal

Join Student Engagement as we honor Black History Month by highlighting former slaves who went on to impact America.

Although there are no known quotes by Gannibal, he was known as the “dark star of the Enlightenment” for his charm and charisma.

Abram Gannibal was kidnapped as a child and became a free man when he was presented as a gift to Peter the Great. Gannibal was raised in the royal life and became a military engineer, general and nobleman. Gannibal is known as the “stolen prince”, having gone from enslaved to being raised and living as royalty.
