Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month: Jorge Luis Borges

Jorge Luis Borges, (born August 24, 1899, Buenos Aires, Argentina—died June 14, 1986, Geneva, Switzerland),  was an Argentine poet, essayist, and short-story writer. He was born in Buenos Aires to a noble Argentine family with British ancestry. Jorge inherited his love for literature by reading books from his father’s library. In 1914 his family moved to Geneva, where Jorge learned French and German and graduated from the College of Geneva. In 1921 he returned to Buenos Aires and began writing, his first book- a book of poems Fervor de Buenos Aires was published in 1923. In 1938 he shifted to fiction, publishing a book of fantastic stories Ficciones, as well as detective stories with Adolfo Bioy Casares. Source: Encyclopedia Britannica
