Dear Chargers:
We in the Department of Student Life want to offer a hearty “WELCOME BACK” to all students as we resume spring semester classes by remote delivery. As you settle back into the routine of classes do not hesitate to reconnect with classmates, friends, and others in the college community outside of your classes using our technology tools.
While it is important to heed the calls for social distancing and shelter-in-place orders issued by our local, state, and federal leaders, maintaining your social relationships is also key. The Dept. of Student Life at GHC will be providing a number of virtual opportunities to maintain social interaction and activities. Look out for the weekly “Charger Connections” infographic message that will announce each week’s events, activities, and featured tips; as well as posts on social media platforms. Be sure to follow the Student Life social media for your campus!
Each week will feature several social media challenges, a spotlighted virtual tour with a scavenger hunt, online games, highlighted free activities and events, and virtual meetings for our student organizations. Some of this week’s virtual events:
- Virtual Tour of the Week: Women’s History Museum, “Women in STEM” exhibit (with scavenger hunt list found on social media)
- Instagram/Snapchat Challenges: Pet Photo Competition – post, tag the Student Life account, and the post with the most hearts wins a prize!
- Ted Talk of the Week: Andy Puddincombe “All It Takes is 10 Mindful Minutes”
- Star Wars trivia game on Kahoot
- Much, much more available on our Virtual Programming webpage!
During this time, it is important to stay connected and not isolate. Please continue to find ways to communicate your needs, goal aspirations, and fears to others. And please remember some basic things during this time of uncertainty:
- Stay connected with your support network through electronic & virtual avenues
- Remind yourself that physical isolation does not mean social isolation
- Keep daily routines as consistent as possible
- Stay connected to your professors and advisors for support
- Focus on what you can control
As we move ahead please know the Department of Student Life is here to serve! We will continue to inform you of all the virtual services, programs and initiatives being planned for the remainder of the semester.
