Dear GHC,
On January 24, we closed our locations in Rome and Cartersville after consulting with local law enforcement regarding their investigation of an undetermined threat they had received. Our number one priority in this type of situation is the safety and security of our students, employees, and visitors to our institution.
I am incredibly thankful for our law enforcement’s quick response. They were dispatched to our sites within minutes of the possible threat they received, began their investigation, and then advised us to close out of an abundance of caution.
When their investigation was complete, they let us know we were clear to open the following Friday.
I also want to thank each student and employee who remained vigilant, calm, and collected during this incident as designated GHC personnel and campus police worked in tandem with local law enforcement present at our locations to secure details and provide appropriate information and instruction during the investigation. It’s important we continue to conduct ourselves this way when facing any level of emergency at GHC or elsewhere to avoid creating panic.
Additionally, I am very thankful to employees who acted on and spread accurate information based on the alerts that went out. The most accurate and fastest form of notification is sent through the GHC NOTIFY alert system.
GHC students are automatically signed up to receive the notifications using the contact information they provided when they applied to GHC. However, students should routinely check their information through SCORE to ensure recent and accurate contact information is available to the alert system.
GHC employees must opt into the system and should also routinely check their information through the GHC NOTIFY portion of the intranet to ensure they receive all alert notifications.
Thanks again for all you do – and please join me in thanking our local law enforcement for their steadfast dedication to safety at GHC.
Sincerely,
President Don Green
