Beware of Work-from-Home and Job Offer Email Scams

Attention Students!

GHC has received several recent reports of work-from-home email scams targeting our students. These fraudulent offers aim to collect your personal information and passwords through a malicious website or survey tool, such as Google Forms. Do NOT respond to these messages or click on any links contained within them.

Here are some important tips to protect yourself from these scams:

  1. Keep your login info secret. Never share your passwords or Duo Security passcodes with anyone for any reason. This includes online applications and surveys.
  2. Be skeptical when using email. Legitimate employers will not direct you to a survey tool like Google Forms to apply for a job. They should never ask for your username and password for personal or school websites.
  • Look for missing details. Job offer scams are often very vague and don’t provide specific details about the company, the job, or why they’re contacting you.
  • Look for automatic warning messages. Your Microsoft 365 email account may flag unusual sender addresses. For example, a recent scam used the address “department-of-student-affairs@pasqualetto.com.br.” The “.br” indicates a Brazilian domain, which is a red flag.
  • Is it too good to be true? If a job offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be skeptical of high salaries or incredible perks that seem unrealistic.
