Message from the Provost – Online Resources

Dear GHC Students,

As part of our ongoing commitment to helping you succeed and complete your educational goals, we are providing below the most recent updates concerning instruction, tutoring, student support, advising, and testing.

  • Instruction – face-to-face, hybrid, and GHC online classes – will NOT resume until Monday, March 30. (Instruction in eCore and eMajor classes was not suspended.) ALL Spring Semester GHC courses will be moving to remote delivery methods, which may include D2L, Zoom, and/or other virtual means of delivering content. Professors are working diligently to ensure that your transition is a smooth and successful one. If you have specific questions or concerns regarding your classes, please contact your professors. They will work with you to ensure you have every opportunity to complete your spring semester classes. (Contact information for Division Deans is provided below also.)
  • Online tutoring will be available at no cost to all GHC students. Students should log in to Navigate at highlands.navigate.eab.com to schedule appointments. If students want to check on a specific tutor’s availability before making an appointment, individual tutor schedules are available at https://sites.highlands.edu/tutorial-center/schedule/. The link to the Zoom session will be included in the appointment confirmation email that is sent. If you have tutoring questions or require additional help, email nmartin@highlands.edu.
  • The Writing Center will be open to serve all students via Zoom and virtual appointments. Students can make an appointment using Navigate.
  • STEM 411 (https://highlands.edu/lp/stem411/), our new free, virtual tutoring platform that allows question submissions and offers a live chat feature, is also available. A faculty member will answer your question for the following courses:  College Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus series, Statistics, Quantitative Skills and Reasoning, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Library Services are available to you remotely as well. You can visit their website for a wealth of information, electronic popular material, as well as chat with a librarian if you need research assistance when we resume instruction.
  • Students approved for accommodations by Student Support Services will have their accommodations transferred to the online environment.   Student Support Services will be sending an email to all students registered with Disability Services with additional details in the next few days. A student guide for Online Accommodations will also be available at the Disability Assistance website before classes begin. If you have additional accommodations questions or concerns, please contact sss@highlands.edu.
  • Advising is ongoing and will be conducted via phone, email, Zoom, or other technologies. If you have advising questions, please complete a ticket in GHC411 on the GHC website.
  • Proctored testing may occur virtually though Respondus and Lock Down Browser, if required by the faculty member. This may require you to use a Mac or Windows Computer with a web cam.
  • Online Counseling sessions are also available and can be scheduled with a Professional Counselor by emailing sss@highlands.edu. All sessions are free and confidential.
  • GHC’s Online Career Center can be accessed at www.collegecentral.com/highlands.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we are all navigating this unusual situation. GHC is committed, as always, to providing quality instruction and service to our students. Stay engaged, and stay on track for graduation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dana Nichols
